Making Peace with my Scars

I remember the first night. I parked the car in the driveway after giving him a ride home from a Bible study. Bill initiated our courtship only days before, and we got to know each other slowly with conversations by telephone, emails, and eventually Skype after I moved away. We both knew it was temporary.

We began unveiling our lives as we'd experienced it, especially mistakes. Some wounds had healed, some fresher than others and many with long histories from childhood.

I said to him, "Your scars are on the outside, but mine are on the inside." To which he replied, "Yes, but I've made peace with mine."

Our marriage became one complete and voluntary watch over our souls, individually and corporately.
